چکیده

Many formulations of visual reconstruction problems (e.g., optic pow, shape from shading, biomedical motion estimation from CT da ta ) involve the recovery of a vector field. Often the solution is characterized via a generalized spline or regularization formulation using a smoothness constraint. This paper introduces a decomposition of the smoothness constraint into two parts: one related to the divergence of the vector field and one related to the curl or vorticity. This allows one t o “tune” the smoothness to the properties of the da ta . One can, f o r example, use a high weighting on the smoothness imposed upon the curl in order to preserve the divergent parts of the field. For a particular spline within the family introduced b y this decomposition process, we derive an exact solution and demonstrate the approach on, examples.

Elastic Spline Models for Human Cardiac Motion Estimation

Elastic splines (including dynamic \snakes" and elastic contours), minimising an energy norm of the membrane and/or thin-plate types, have been used to model many surfaces in visual reconstruction and related biomedical applications. In this paper, we model the displacement of the material between successive cardiac images using vector splines. We deene a family of elastic splines. These spline...

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis

In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...

L-Optimal Splines for Outlier Rejection∗

In this article, we consider control theoretic splines with L optimization for rejecting outliers in data. Control theoretic splines are either interpolating or smoothing splines, depending on a cost function with a constraint defined by linear differential equations. Control theoretic splines are effective for Gaussian noise in data since the estimation is based on L optimization. However, in ...

Evolutionary multivariate adaptive regression splines for estimating shear strength in reinforced-concrete deep beams

This study proposes a novel artificial intelligence (AI) model to estimate the shear strength of reinforcedconcrete (RC) deep beams. The proposed evolutionary multivariate adaptive regression splines (EMARS) model is a hybrid of multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and artificial bee colony (ABC). In EMARS, MARS addresses learning and curve fitting and ABC implements optimization to ...
